Foods That Will Help Heal Your Stomachache
Foods That Will Help Heal Your Stomachache

A healthy gut goes a long way to ensuring a happy life, and what you eat plays an important role in maintaining healthy digestion. Just as eating a high-fiber diet, rich in nutrients, will help maintain optimal digestive function, there are foods you can eat to help ease digestive complaints such as stomachache.

Here is a list of foods that can help you heal your upset stomach:

Ginger - Ginger has been shown to work as both an intestinal spasmolytic and carminative, meaning it helps reduce wind and soothes the digestive tract. It also stimulates the production of bile, which helps support digestive function. Ginger also contains shogaols and gingerols that are believed to obstruct the serotonin receptors in the gut, therefore alleviating nausea.

Coconut water - Coconut water is packed full of nutrients needed when your body is dehydrated. Unlike sports drinks, coconut water is completely natural and more gentle on the stomach, making it an excellent fluid choice when you have an upset tummy. It is also beneficial for stomach ache as it has anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe your stomach lining.

Bananas - Bananas are gentle on the stomach and very easy to digest, making them an excellent food choice for a volatile tummy. They are high in potassium which aids in the production of bile, your stomachs natural protection, and are also rich in pectins which work to bind your stool and help reduce symptoms of diarrhea.

White Toast - Simple carbohydrates are easier for your body to digest, and less likely to cause you to be sick. Though wholemeal and wholegrain toast provides more nutrients, white toast is more gentle on your stomach and easier to tolerate.

White rice - Like white toast, white rice is a simple carbohydrate that is gentle on your digestive system and easier to digest.

Plain potatoes - As well as being a simple starchy carbohydrate that is gentle on your stomach and easy to digest, plain potatoes contain potassium which aids in the production of bile and helps protect your stomach lining.

Oats- Oats are both gentle on your stomach and a great source of fiber, meaning they help bind stool and aid in the digestion process.

Apples - Apples are rich in pectins which bind your stool and help ease symptoms of diarrhea. When eaten stewed, apples are also gentle on your stomach and easy to digest.

Papaya - Papaya is rich in papain, a natural enzyme that works to break down foods that might be irritating to your stomach. It is also rich in fiber and has been used to help manage ulcers, diarrhea, and heartburn.

Bananas: Nature’s Happy Drug
Bananas: Nature’s Happy Drug

Making sure you eat a healthy and balanced diet will go a long way in supporting your mental health. But did you know that there are some foods that can boost your mood and help you feel happier?

The food that ranks number one as nature’s best ‘happy snack’ is the banana - and for a good reason!

One of the most compelling components of bananas is their serotonin content, yet interestingly enough, its the amino acid, tryptophan, that they contain that is responsible for the serotonin boost your brain receives after snacking on a banana.

Your body converts tryptophan into serotonin, but to do this, it needs two other key components; B6 and carbohydrates. Fortunately bananas contain both of these in abundance! Which is why together, these three components, alongside all the other nutritional benefits, make bananas a serotonin-producing superfood!

So, what is serotonin, and why do we need it?

Serotonin is a chemical, or neurotransmitter, produced in the brain that plays an important role in regulating sleep and generating feelings of wellbeing and happiness. Since the discovery that tryptophan has the ability to raise serotonin levels, it has been used in the treatments of numerous mood-based conditions such as depression, anxiety and insomnia.

Need more reasons to reach for a banana for your snack?

Bananas are incredibly rich in potassium and are also a great source of calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, niacin, folate, riboflavin, and as mentioned before, B6! All of these nutrients play important roles in maintaining the proper function of your body and keeping you healthy and happy.

It isn’t just its mood-boosting potentials that make bananas a healthy and popular snack choice. They are also rich in numerous essential nutrients, are excellent for satisfying sweet cravings, AND they taste amazing!

A Message from our Founder
A Message from our Founder

To all of our Do You Bake? Ambassadors and foodie + customer loving family, please be safe during our current health crises affecting and impacting our lives in various ways.  At times like this it is important we embrace those we love and be kind to all in our society.

As a reminder -

We are in full operation at both our USA and Canadian facilities.  As you know we take the safety and health of our community seriously. At this time we have no impact to operations, other than maybe a little slower than normal for another week or two as we digest all the news and sort out our operations to handle more growth.

We are a small but growing company with a small internal staff. A staff that has not traveled outside to high risk regions within the past year. Our risk is minimal and yet we are taking even bigger precautions at our facilities through this time.

As a reminder, we do indeed manufacture our own products. We source our raw materials in the USA and Canada. Our outside risk is thus minimal

So, how do you go from here? What do you do?

This is a great time to spend time with your loved ones. Find ways to keep the kiddos occupied, do your work from home thing and embrace the awesomeness of cooking and baking. Rock out the card games, the board games and take a minute to hit some at home cardio for some good ol fashioned heart health!

So much awesome stuff can happen right in the confines of your home.

Don't dwell on what you cannot do, embrace all the things you now get a chance to do! Like me! ... I get to find new and creative ways to workout in small spaces (I love the gym), I get to dream up really cool kiddo lovin' activities too you might be able to do in the kitchens with them! ... I get to be more mindful of the food that's going into my body each day. Play with my doggies, work hard on meeting and exceeding your expectations too!! Maybe read a little, learn something new and get a chance to work on all the fun stuff ahead for our company product release around the corners.

Yes!! There's lots of awesome stuff that can happen right from your home too!!

Sending you tons of love and positive mojo
